Forerunner 305 GPS

The Ultimate GPS Watch

GPS Watch

Watches are beginning to move into the mini-computer category. Some GPS watches also include functions like calendars, alarm clocks, calculators, voice recorders and functions to help to track your workout.

Being able to keep track of the distance covered and the pace is extremely valuable to a runner or biker.  Many GPS watches have features that can help keep track of your total work-out and the total calories burned.

Garmin Forerunner 310XT with GPS

A GPS watch that is a little smaller, and makes an excellent replacement for the Forerunner 305, is the Garmin 310XT. Like its predecessor, this watch is perfect for the athlete going from dry land to water during their training.
It is easy to configure this gps watch, but you should read the manual and learn how to fully take advantage of all the options that are available. This watch has a battery life of up to 20 hours, which is an advantage when traveling.

Garmin Approach S1

If you are a golfer, the Garmin Approach S1 will display the exact yardage to the greens. This gps watch also comes thousands of courses preloaded. This gps watch calculates the angle and distance to the hole you are playing. It measures individual shot distances as well as how far you walk.

The Forerunner 610

The Forerunner 610 has a touch and tap screen.  You can drag your finger across the screen to change views and then just tap to select your choice.  You can set up multiple screens, and just tap on the dial as you're running and it'll flip between them. This touch-screen is can stand up to rain, but is still sensitive enough to be operated while wearing running or cycling gloves.

One of the functions is its ability to guide you back to your starting point.
The vibration setting for laps / notifications is another nice feature.

Another feature of this gps watch is the Virtual Racer. This function accounts for real-time conditions. The Forerunner 610 also offers vibration alerts when you reach your target. The Forerunner 610 also has the Training Effect capability from Firstbeat. Training Effect measures the impact of an activity on your workout.

Your Training Effect is calculated based on the difficulty of the activity, your user profile, and your heart rate.  Heart rate zones are customizable, as are the alerts and heart-rate based calorie computations.

You can monitor your health by tracking body fat, weight, body water and six other measurements when using the Forerunner 610 with the Tanita BC-1000 body composition scale. The readings are stored on Forerunner 610, and then when you are in the range of your computer, it automatically uploads your run data to the Garmin Connect site.

The Lok8u GPS Child Locator

There is now a new gps watch that has a child locator. The Lok8u GPS Child Locator is a fully-functional watch that your child can not remove. If the watch is removed, an alert is sent to your cell phone or email. The Google street map view of your child’s physical location is supported by the Lok8u GPS Child Locator.

I’ve just touched on a few features of a gps watch. As you can tell, there are a lot of features as well as accessories to help you choose a great watch.
