Initially acquiring the satellites can take some time, but once you have the signal, there are remarkably few dropouts.

The heart rate monitor and the distance monitor are excellent the wrist strap is also very comfortable.

The display is easy to read and has about 40 different data fields, making the Forerunner 305 very customizable. While running, it is easy to see the display to track your distance, current or average pace or heart rate.

One negative is that the pace measurement varies wildly while you are running.  Sometimes it can vary +/- 3 minutes/mile. However, the lap average pace can be used and is extremely accurate.

The Pace Alert alarm system can also be used to alert you when you are falling off pace, thus allowing you to attain an optimal workout or performance.

You can take breaks during your workout, without watching the time, by using the Interval Training feature on the forerunner 305 gps.

By using the Auto Lap feature you are able to cycle through all laps during your workout with needing to reset anything.

There is a feature called the Virtual Partner.  This computer-based partner helps to motivate and challenge you to improve your endurance.

For those athletes that perform in several different sports, the Mini-sport setting is a great feature. This feature allows monitoring of multiple activities without resetting the unit.

Being able to monitor your heart rate is an important feature of the Forerunner 305 gps. This can be done by either evaluating the data after it is downloaded, or viewing the information on the display.

The Training Center is PC software which will automatically download the workout data to your computer. Being able to analyze the data on distance, heart rate, pace, time and calories burned after your workout is very beneficial.

Even though the battery only has about 10 hours of life, it is rechargeable and can also be charged via the USB port on your computer.

The optional Foot Pod is available for this unit. The Foot Pod will allow you to continue your workout indoors when it is not practical to be outside. You are also able to track your progress outside when the GPS is unable to get a clear view of the sky.

Here are a few of the accessories for the Forerunner 305 GPS watch:

•    Foot Pod
•    Vehicle Power Cable
•    Speed/Cadence Bike Sensor
•    A/C Adaptor for Travel
•    Carrying Case
•    USB Cable

My Forerunner 305 review summary:

The 305 has an exceptional heart rate monitor, a crisp display, a lot of data for recalling lap history, goal-oriented workouts, and a very sensitive GPS. Reviewing the data to see what progress you are making after your workout, helps to keep you on track, and is a great motivator.

Having all these features, and more, on a wristwatch is outstanding.
